John W. Gilbert, MD

Dr.GilbertJohn W. Gilbert, M.D. is a 4th generation Kentucky physician. He completed his training in neurosurgery at the University of Kentucky in 1990. He founded the Spine and Brain Neurosurgical Center in 1995. Additionally, he has been chief of neurosurgery at UK Samaritan Hospital since 1997.

Dr. Gilbert is a volunteer assistant professor at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and professor of Neurosurgery and Pain Management at the Pikeville Medical School. He has achieved board certification status from the American Board of Neurological Surgery, American Academy of Pain Management, American Board of Pain Medicine, American Board of Addiction Medicine and American Society of Neuroimaging with a special emphasis on MRI and CT of the nervous system. He is a Certified Medical Review Officer (MRO) through the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC).
